Explained Call Of Duty Modern Warfare (MW2) 2 Why Phone Number Is Required And How To Add

Later this month, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 2022 will be released, and many people will find it quite problematic because a phone number will be needed in order to play CoD MW2 online

This problem has just come to light with the release of Overwatch 2. Fans of OW1 can now play OW2 without adding a phone number, however, this requirement wasn’t initially available as everyone had to add a cell device on launch day.

Explained Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Why Phone Number Is Required, How To Add

You will need a postpaid cell cellphone from the start to play CoD MW2 online, though Activision may decide to remove this restriction when the game launches.

WHY IS CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2 REQUIRED TO HAVE A PHONE NUMBER?

For the same reasons as Overwatch 2, a phone number is needed to play Call of Duty MW 2 2022.

Since Activision and Blizzard are one company, we can go to the OW2 “Defense Matrix” blog article to learn why CoD MW2 requires a mobile device.

The demand for a phone number, according to Blizzard, is meant to prevent “smurf accounts” and “disruptive in-game behaviour.” If a profile is ever breached, SMS protection assists in confirming account ownership and makes it more challenging for players who have been suspended or banned to rejoin the game.

Since an existing phone number can only be used once per battle.net account, it is more challenging for banned and suspended gamers to rejoin.

According to Blizzard’s battle.net support page, a postpaid phone number may only be added for Call of Duty MW2 2022.

You won’t be able to play CoD MW2 if your cell phone is prepaid or VOIP, just like Overwatch 2 at launch. Newly established Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Overwatch 2 accounts both need a phone number, according to the support page, although CoD MW2 doesn’t have that asterisk.

Overwatch 2 isn’t the first game to demand a working phone number to play online, but according to reports from The Verge and the general player population, Battle.net is being far stricter about prepaid and VOIP phone plans than games like Dota 2.

Activision Blizzard responded to the uproar by announcing that players of the original Overwatch who have connected Battle.net accounts will be exempt from the phone policy. New users must however enter their phone numbers.
