After Kevin Lee was unable to defeat Daniel Rodriguez in August of 2021, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) decided to let him go.

On the 10th of January 2023, Lee took to Twitter in order to make the following statement: “Since being public about my conversion as a Muslim I’ve had a lot of people reach out to give support. I see all the messages and calls I feel the love. Allah always has a plan and I’m glad I’m on the right path.”

Then he made the decision to clear up some misunderstandings by stating, “Just to clarify because I see the questions, I officially accepted Islam in my life in October 2021 I just have not come out publicly until recently. I want to start a podcast soon I can speak more in depth there.”

Kevin Lee was brought up in the city of Detroit, Michigan, despite the fact that he was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 4, 1992. Lee has a sister and two younger brothers, one of whom is Keith, himself a professional mixed martial artist contracted to Bellator. Keith had been training with Kevin at Xtreme Couture in the past, and they are both now training at Tristar. Lee’s family includes a sister and two younger brothers.

While he was growing up, he was active in basketball competitions, and he started wrestling during his junior year at Southfield High School. Lee maintained his success in the sport of wrestling at Grand Valley State University, where he qualified for the national tournament and finished his sophomore year with a record of 37–0. Lee had two more years left of wrestling eligibility at the school when he decided to leave and focus on a career in mixed martial arts instead of continuing his education.

Politically, Lee had declared his support for Bernie Sanders in the race for the presidency in 2020, and he gave a speech in Las Vegas in December 2019 at a gathering for Sanders.
