Former Managing Director of Novartis India Ranjit Shahani passed away at the age of 73. His death cause is not announced yet by his family. Ranjit is survived by his wife Indu and kids. The remarkable journey of Ranjit Shahani began with a Mechanical Engineering degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, followed by an MBA from Mumbai’s Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies.

Indu and Ranjit Shahani’s educationist son Siddharth is married to Rachna Doshi.

Shahani’s career spanned several companies, starting with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in India, where he made significant contributions to fibres and specialty chemicals. His tenure at ICI was followed by a role as General Manager at ICI, Zeneca in the UK, where he oversaw operations across Asia Pacific and Latin America in petrochemicals and plastics. However, it was in the pharmaceutical sector that Shahani truly made his mark.

Joining Roche Products Limited as CEO and later moving to Novartis India Limited in 1997, Shahani held the positions of Managing Director and Vice Chairman from 2001 to 2018. Under his leadership, Novartis India experienced remarkable growth and success, solidifying its position as a key player in the pharmaceutical industry.

Shahani’s influence extended beyond pharmaceuticals. He served as President Emeritus of the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) and President of the Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce India. Additionally, he chaired advisory boards at JB Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, served on the boards of Hikal Ltd and Ambuja Cements Ltd, and chaired the Advisory Board at Voll Sante Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals Pvt Ltd.

Shahani’s extensive career trajectory underscored his strategic acumen, expertise, and unwavering pursuit of excellence.
