On Sunday, January 15, NHL player Gino Odjick reportedly passed away at 52. Odjick’s sister, Dina, posted the tragic news on Facebook, saying:
Our hearts are broken. My brother Gino Odjick has left us for the spirit world.
The popular Vancouver Canucks player passed away after being escorted to the hospital to have the bandages on his legs changed. However, when he arrived, he unexpectedly fell and needed assistance from the medical personnel. According to the Montreal Gazette, it was then discovered that he had just been declared deceased.

Gino Odjick was a left winger with the Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and Vancouver Canucks during his twelve seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1990 to 2002. He was of Algonquin descent, and during his playing career, he was known as an enforcer, earning him the moniker “Algonquin Assassin.”

He died due to a sudden heart attack. On June 26, 2014, Odjick revealed that he was diagnosed with the rare terminal disease AL amyloidosis, a rare blood disorder and whose exact cause is often unknown and the condition had slowly been hardening his heart by coating it in abnormal protein deposits, which eventually led Odjick to suffer a heart attack.
