The basketball community is in grief when Brandon Hunter, a former player for the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic, abruptly passed away. He was 42. The news was verified on Tuesday by Ohio’s men’s basketball team’s head coach, Jeff Boals. Boals referred to Hunter as a “Bobcat Great” on social media as a tribute to him.

Hunter played for the Bobcats for four NCAA seasons (1999–2003), leading the NCAA in rebounds in 2003. More specifically, during his final college season, he averaged 21.5 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. He entered the NBA in 2003 as the No. 56 overall draft choice, but only played there for two years.
With the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic, he made a combined 67 appearances, although neither team gave him much of a role. He shot 47.6% in his career and averaged 3.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.3 assists. Before quitting basketball, Hunter played for seven years (2006–2013) in Central America and Europe.
