According to reports, DJ Gokulakrishnan passed away on Wednesday, October 11, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

During his playing career, he primarily played as a bowling all-rounder, bowling as a right-arm medium.

DJ Gokulakrishnan bio and age

Jayaraman Gokulakrishnan or DJ Gokulakrishnan was a former Indian first-class cricketer, born on 4 January 1973, in Chennai. He just recently passed away on 11 October 2023, in Chennai, aged 50. During his career, he represented Tamil Nadu, Goa and Assam following which he became a cricket coach. He served as the coach for Tamil Nadu as well as a BCCI referee.

According to reports, D.J. Gokulakrishnan passed away after suffering from a heart attack.

DJ Gokulakrishnan career

During his playing career, Gokulakrishnan played as a all-rounder for 12 years between 1993- 2004. He scored a total of 1,116 runs and 103 wickets in 39 first-class games throughout his career. Meanwhile, in List-A cricket, he took part in 45 matches, and scored 552 runs, and picked up 71 wickets. Aside from playing for Tamil Nadu, he also played for Assam and Goa on the domestic level.

After retiring from his playing career, Gokulakrishnan served as BCCI match referee in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. Besides those tournaments, he also officiated in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. He eventually qualified as a level 2 coach and spent two stints with the Tamil Nadu team as their assistant coach in 2008 and 2013. Back in 2010, he served as their bowling coach and also served as the head coach of the Tamil Nadu u-19 team later in 2015.

Aside from that, Gokulakrishnan also worked for five-time Indian Premier League winners Chennai Super Kings. He most recently served as their talent scout and as a special coach for the Super Kings Academy.

Former India Women’s coach and India men’s player, W V Raman, who served as Gokulakrishnan’s captain at Tamil Nadu stated the following about Gokulakrishnan:

“Gokulakrishnan was perhaps unlucky to miss out on not being accorded the highest honour. I mean the Indian cap when I say that. He would have been a good player for white-ball cricket.”
