Barcelona’s Pedri bagged the European Golden Boy winner award 2021 with Jude Bellingham coming in at second place

18-year old Spanish sensation Pedri picked up the European Golden Boy award 2021 ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. It is Italian newspaper Tuttosport’s idea of giving out the award to the best player aged 21 or under in the top leagues of Europe. The prize is handed out every year and this time, Erling Haaland, last year’s Golden Boy award winner passes on the honour to Pedri.

Out of a total of 40 journalists, 26 of them placed Pedri on first position, 9 of them placed him second whereas 3 put him on 3rd place. That means only 2 journalists did not include the Spaniard on their nomination list leaving Pedri with a total of 318 points which made him finish well ahead of England’s Jude Bellingham.

It’s revealed that there has never ever been such a huge gap between the first and second placed contenders in the history of the award.

Where and when will Pedri be awarded with the prize?

Pedri will be handed over the Golden Boy award on December 13th at a ceremony in Turin. Let’s see what the 18-year old Barca midfielder had to say in a recent video message.

“I thank Tuttosport for this trophy, which makes me proud, and I also thank members of the jury and the fans who have always supported me in what has been an incredible 2021 for me.” He further went on to thank Barcelona, the Spanish national team, his family, friends and all those who have remained close to the player day after day, without whom he wouldn’t have won the award.

Pedri Contract With Barcelona, Salary And Net Worth

As recently as last month, Pedri signed a new deal with Barcelona. He extended his contract with the Catalan club, making him stay at the Camp Nou till 2026. Pedi joined Barcelona from Las Palmas in August 2020 and has been phenomenal for both club and country, having won the silver medal with Spain at the Tokyo Olympics, along with being named in the Euro 2020 team of the tournament.
