After defeating Offerspill in the fourth round on Thursday, second-seed Novy Bor Chess Club took exclusive possession of the lead in open division of the European Club Cup. Harikrishna’s defeat to Magnus Carlsen on board 1 was more than offset by victories by Vidit & Markus Ragger and as a result, Novy Bor won their tie against Offerspill by score of 3.5-2.5. Meanwhile in women’s division, co-leaders Superbet and Pamhagen drew their direct confrontation to maintain their lead ahead of rivals.

On Thursday at European Club Cup in Mayrhofen, five Indian participants with rating of 2700+ took the field and coincidentally, all of their games ended decisively. Vidit Gujrathi of Novy Bor won his fourth consecutive match in this tournament with a superb outing against Aryan Tari of Offerspill while Superbet’s Vishy Anand claimed his first win of the competition by defeating Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Viernheim. In round 5 matches of Friday, some nail-biting clashes will be played including match featuring second-seed Novy Bor against top-seed Superbet.
