2022 European Chess Club Cup Results Today, Best Performers of Day, And Latest Standings

In Mayrhofen of Austria, 2022 European Club Cup got underway with 17 teams competing in the women’s competition and 70 teams in the open competition. No major upsets occurred in the opening round because the top teams overwhelmingly won with ease. The women’s favorites from Monaco triumphed, though, by the narrowest of margins. Surprisingly, both Vishy Anand and Magnus Carlsen drew their respective matches against lower-rated opponents.

The CSU ASE Superbet from Romania, which not only includes Anand, Rapport, and Gukesh on its squad but also Olympic champion Ivan Sokolov as its captain, is one of the favorites to emerge as champions. Nine of the top-placed teams following first round have all scored at least 5.5 out of 6 points. Anand, Carlsen, and Anton Korobov were among the top boards for three of these nine teams that had draws on the first day of play. In contrast to Carlsen, who survived from losing position to draw against Nikita Meshkovs, Anand kept things straightforward & rapidly simplified into a draw position.
