2022 European Championship Darts First Round Results, Winners, Score, Day 2 Schedule, Date, Time, Venue, & Other Details
Former champions Cross and Wade squared off on the opening night of European Championship Darts at Westfallenhalle, but following an intense match, Wade emerged victorious. After Wade missed his chance to clinch leg ten, Cross battled back from a 5-3 deficit to force a decider. Cross, a two-time winner, was unable to complete the comeback, missing two match darts at the tops in a thrilling finish as Wade eventually pinned double one to win the match with his sixth match dart.
On Thursday, three players had ton-plus averages, and Luke Humphries was one of them. The top seed began his championship quest with 6-4 victory over Krzysztof Ratajski, causing the Polish star to crash out from first-round of European Championship for fifth straight year. Josh Rock, a rising star from Northern Ireland, had a spectacular broadcast debut in Dortmund, defeating Nathan Aspinall in a nail-biting final match to set up a compelling matchup with Michael Smith in the next round. In the evening’s penultimate match, Smith overcame Czech qualifier Karel Sedlacek after a sluggish start, winning five of the final six legs to secure a 6-4 victory.
At the Westfallenhalle, Vincent van der Voort pulled off the biggest upset of the evening by punishing fifth seed Damon Heta’s careless performance to win 6-2. Noppert defeated Andrew Gilding with two massive tons-plus checkouts for 6-3 victory. Friday night will see the conclusion of the first round, with 2020 champion Peter Wright facing off against Ryan Meikle and four-time champion Michael van Gerwen facing off against Chris Dobey.
