During the first-round matches of Cazoo European Championship Darts in Dortmund, Chris Dobey stunned Michael van Gerwen following a nail-biting decider to qualify for second-round, where he will face-off against Jose De Sousa.

At the Westfalenhalle on the second day of the £500,000 tournament, the top three players in the world competed, however Van Gerwen and Price were eliminated on a remarkable evening when six of Friday’s eight winners posted ton-plus averages. Dobey profited from Michael van Gerwen missing four match darts in the pivotal penultimate leg by throwing back-to-back 180s and taking out 84 in the decider to win in 11 darts and earn his first career victory over Van Gerwen. Following his 6-4 victory over Price, Rodriguez was also overtaken with emotion.

After beginning his championship quest with convincing 6-2 victory over Ryan Meikle, World Champion Wright avoided the same fate as his primary competitors. Despite playing at home, Gabriel Clemens lost to Jonny Clayton by a score of 4-6, and Martin Schindler fell to Jose De Sousa by a score of 1-6 to exit the first round. In the opening game on Friday, Dave Chisnall produced stellar performance, averaging 107 to whitwash Stephen Bunting of St. Helens by 6-0 score. Elsewhere, Dimitri Van den Bergh defeated Daryl Gurney 6-2 to qualify for second-round, where he will play Ross Smith. To eliminate sixth-seeded Joe Cullen, Ross Smith produced 101 average, which helped him to bounce back from 2-4 deficit and win 6-4.

On Saturday, Danny Noppert will square-off against Vincent van der Voort in an all-Dutch matchup to open second-round matches at Westfalenhalle. In the opening match of evening session, Ross Smith and Van den Bergh will square off and following this, Wright will face-off against Rodriguez in his quest for second European Championship. Prize Money Pool Distribution of 2022 European Championship Darts

The winner of 2022 European Championship Darts will receive £120,000 in prize money as opposed to the runner-up who will receive £60,000. Each contender will receive a £6,000 guaranteed cash award from the £500,000 net prize money. Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price will each take home £6,000 in prize money after being eliminated in the first round.
