The Italian track and field team triumphed at the European Athletics Championships 2024, held from June 7 to June 12 at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, amassing a total of 24 medals.

As the host nation, Italy claimed 11 golds, 9 silvers, and 4 bronzes, leading the overall medal count. Italian athletes excelled both individually and in team events, with 23 individual and 3 team medals.

Marcell Jacobs, a crowd favorite, clinched gold in the men’s 100m with a time of 10.02 seconds.

Jacobs, alongside Matteo Melluzzo, Lorenzo Patta, and Filippo Tortu, also secured gold in the men’s 4x100m relay, overcoming strong competition from the Dutch and German teams.

Notably, the Italian men’s 4x100m team placed second overall, behind Belgium but ahead of Germany.

France followed Italy in the medal standings with a total of 16 medals, including 4 golds, 5 silvers, and 7 bronzes. Great Britain and Northern Ireland came in third, earning 4 golds, 4 silvers, and 5 bronzes.

Apart from that, Femke Bol of the Netherlands bolstered her reputation by winning gold in the women’s 400m hurdles.

Norwegian middle and long-distance runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen secured his third European title in the 1500m with a new championship record of 3:31.95.

Swedish star Mondo Duplantis won his third European title in the pole vault, achieving a championship record jump of 6.10m.

Norwegian athlete Karsten Warholm won his third European Championships gold in the 400m hurdles, setting a championship-record time of 46.98 seconds.
