Aside from the release clause, the Norwegian has had a terrific form ever since moving from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Haaland has already scored 20 goals in 13 appearances in all competitions this season.
Alf-Inge Haaland’s Statement
Of the 20 goals to his name, 15 of those goals are from his nine Premier League appearances.
According to his father, Alf-Inge, Haaland wants to prove himself in ‘all leagues’, that’s the long-term plan.
Haaland Sr. said in the documentary, Haaland: The Big Decision:
I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues. Then he can stay there [Manchester City] for three or four years at the most.
He could be, for example, two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?
Does Haaland’s Real Madrid Clause It Exist
A lot of people believe that Haaland has a ‘Real Madrid’ clause in his contract, which will allow him to leave for the Bernabeu when he does decide to leave the Premier League.
However, Pep Guardiola has denied this claim last week.
The City boss stated:
It’s not true , he has not got a release clause for Real Madrid or any other team.
The rumours and people talking, we cannot control it. I always worry about what we can control.
What’s important is he has adapted really well, we have the feeling he is happy here. We will try with him and all of them who want to stay to make them happy.
In the future, nobody knows, but he is happy, he has settled perfectly, he is incredibly loved and this is the most important thing.
He may not have a Real Madrid clause, but The Athletic have revealed Haaland’s release clause details at Man City.
Haaland’s Contract Release Clause Fee At Manchester City
According to their report:
Haaland has a €200 million (£175.5m; $194m) release clause that kicks in from the summer of 2024.
The release clause value decreases as his five-year contract nears its end. However, the shocking reveal comes from the fact that the clause doesn’t apply to Premier League teams.
This means that if Haaland does indeed wish to leave for another club in England, they will have to negotiate a fee outside of the release clause. This makes it simply impossible for Haaland to sign for another Premier League club.
Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United who were reportedly interested in the striker now have no chance of buying Haaland.
This however, doesn’t mean that clubs outside of England have it easy. Besides paying the £175.5m clause fee, there would be “additional bonuses and agent fees to pay”.
City faced a similar case when they triggered Dortmund’s £51.2 million. Besides the clause fee, City’s deal, included agent fees and bonuses, which reached around £85million.
Moreover, Haaland currently earns around £375,000 a week, and will likely earn more when he decides to leave Man City.
In conclusion, while Haaland’s release clause gives the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain a chance to sign him on paper, the overall deal which will certainly cost millions more if not double or triple the amount might make them look away.
