Enzo Maresca linked with a move to take over Chelsea
Notably, Maresca will be the fourth Blues manager in two years if he does join the club as their manager. Interestingly, ex-Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was initially stated as the favourite to replace Pochettino alongside Kieran McKenna and Brentford boss Thomas Frank. Despite all the speculation, Maresca has now emerged as the favourite to take over the Chelsea job. And according to reports, talks between the two parties are now moving quickly.
Leicester have reportedly granted Chelsea with the permission to speak with Maresca. Notably, the Blues are set to offer Maresca with a contract that will last at least five years. Meanwhile, Chelsea will have to pay Leicester with a compensation fee worth around £10million. Willy Caballero, who previously spent four years at Chelsea as a backup goalkeeper could join Maresca as his assistant.
Enzo Maresca coaching career
Maresca started out his coaching career at Manchester City, where he worked with the development squad. He eventually got his first managerial appointment at Parma, but got sacked after just six months in charge. Following the sacking, he was hired as a member of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at City, back in 2022.
The following season, Leicester hired the Italian coach right after their relegation. During Maresca’s first summer in charge, Leicester City had several first-team stars leave the club, including James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Timothy Castagne, and Youri Tielemans. Despite this, he brought in some pivotal replacements like Harry Winks, Stephy Mavididi and Mads Hermansen, who all played a major role in helping Leicester earn a straight promotion back to the Premier League.
