Due to his father Ral’s interest in Uruguayan footballer Enzo Francescoli, Fernández was given the name of the three-time Copa América champion. Fernandez is dating Valentina Cervantes.

Fernández, a River Plate academy graduate, made his first-team debut for the squad in 2019 and then played on loan for Defensa y Justicia for two seasons. Before returning to River Plate in 2021, he had a productive season there that ended in his victories in the Copa Sudamericana and Recopa Sudamericana. In the years that followed his comeback, Fernández became a key member of River Plate’s squad and took home the Argentine Primera División. He signed on the Portuguese Primeira Liga team Benfica in July 2022.
He has since established himself as one of the team’s most outstanding recent products as well as one of Argentina’s most gifted young midfielders. Although the national team has yet to acknowledge his recent performance, he did make a number of appearances for Argentina’s U-18 squad in 2019.
