Despite Selby’s strong start, which saw him clinch the opening frame, his opponent Robertson held his nerve and recorded breaks of 78, 78, & 141 to race towards an early lead of 3-1. However, Selby picked up the pace after the break, winning three straight frames with breaks of 51 & 136 to make it 4-3 in his favor, but Robertson rallied with a 66 to tie the score at 4-4. Robertson led 29-0 in the ninth frame, when he lost his position while breaking the pack, however, Selby’s tactical long red saw him score a break of 104 and retake the lead. Later in the tenth frame, Selby fired yet another fantastic long red, which sparked a match-winning 85 break and saw him win  6-4 to qualify for the championship match.

Brecel dominated the first two frames of the other semifinal while limiting his opponent to lower breaks. Allen blew his chance to win the third frame, giving Brecel a 3-0 lead right away. Later, Brecel won the following two games with breaks of 71 and 89 to take a 5-0 lead. Just as the game appeared to be over, Allen won back-to-back frames to cut the lead to 5-2. Allen’s success was short-lived, though, as Brecel won the eighth frame to cross the finish line and advance to the English Open title match.
