England vs India: Fight Between Indian Cricket Team Management and Selectors Grows

It all started after the Indian cricket team management requested for Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Paddikal as the replacement for injured Shubman Gill. The selectors denied the request stating that the Indian contingent in England already has enough back-up players to replace Shubman Gill.

After this, there were many questions raised that the selection committee earlier denied the request straightaway. Speaking to ANI a senior BCCI official said that this whole chaos of a scenario could’ve been avoided if the manager had written to the secretary or the Cheif Executive Officer (CEO).

He said that it’s time for the team management to focus on the tour as this topic of sending the email to the selectors has already caused a lot of controversy and confusion.

He also said that when you’re on a tour and if there’s a requirement or difficulty you write to the secretary or the CEO or the office. There is a protocol that needs to be followed as it’s India cricket team’s tour and not some private one.

If funds are required, you do not just speak to the accountant and request a funds transfer because till the approvals are in place the chat would not mean anything, there is a system of checks and balances.”

“Similarly, the selection committee is not empowered to unilaterally take a decision on the basis of an email. However, the selection committee can request the board if they wish to make changes”, he concluded.
