Going into the third series, Australia had a 2-0 lead up to Yorkshire and started off by batting first under cloudy skies.
England vs Australia Ashes
During the third test match, England’s Mark Wood impressed heavily, bowling at speeds over 95 mph taking 5/34 in the first innings. Mitchell Marsh, who was Australia’s star in their 263 all out win in the first match of the series failed to secure another win for his side. The following match, England skipper Ben Stokes hit an 80 in 237 all out to help remove Australia for 224.
As England were on a victory chase of 251 in the third match, things looked dim for the three lions. England lost Joe Root and Stokes either side of lunch and Mitchell Starc (5/78) came to the party. However, a seventh-wicket partnership between Harry Brook (75) and Chris Woakes (32 not out) got England close to victory. Following which man-of-the-match winner Wood (16 not out), came on to finish the job.
