However, after eight years at the helm, the 53-year-old manager is reportedly considering to step down. Though these are just speculations, as of now nothing is confirmed regarding this matter.

What Did Gareth Southgate Say?

Reports indicates that Southgate is planning to make a decision in the coming days. In the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Spain, he said, “I don’t think now is a good time to make a decision like that.

“I’ve got to talk to the right people. Yeah, it’s just not for now. I think England are in a really good position in terms of the experiences those players have got now and the age of the squad.

“Most of this squad are going to be around not just for the World Cup but the next Euros as well. There’s a lot to look forward to, but at this moment that’s not much of a consolation.”

Although nothing is confirmed about Gareth Southgate leaving England, however, various reports emerged online with a potential replacement candidate with one very clear favorite.

Potential Candidates to Replace Southgate

At the time of writing this article, former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter is the frontrunner, followed by another ex-Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino, at 5/2.

England Under-21 boss Lee Carsley is a strong contender, having worked closely with Southgate and led his young side to last summer’s U21 European Championship success.
