Up until recently, Carsley was the clear favourite to succeed Gareth Southgate with odds of 1/6 at the start of the week.
With some triumphant wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland, the interim manager was an obvious choice, but the recent defeat to Greece proved damaging.
Meanwhile, Tuchel who is also linked to replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United, saw his odds cut down to 50/1 at the start of the month but now stands at 1/2 shot.

England are currently experiencing a major period of transition with the senior manager position still up for grabs. As things stand, Thomas Tuchel and interim manager Lee Carsley hold the best positions.
Tuchel and Three Lions
Thomas Tuchel is currently still out of work ever since leaving Bayern Munich earlier this year. The German manager is renowned for his tactical prowess, and possesses greater experience in dealing with big matches more than Carsley. Throughout his career, Tuchel has employed tactics that showcase greater control and laid emphasis on the full-backs starting attacking moves. Moreover, Tuchel is someone who never leaves his defence open, often utilising holding midfielders close to his defenders.
Unlike Carsley, Thomas Tuchel also isn’t worried about changing things up when things aren’t working. The FA clearly have a tough decision to make between the two candidates as a comfortable win up against Finland could again shift the odds back into favour of Carsley. Up until then, it remains to be seen who will replace Gareth Southgate as the man in charge of the Three Lions.
