Emma Hayes USWNT contract and salary details

According to reports from major news outlets, Emma Hayes has agreed to a “long-term contract” with U.S. Soccer. However, the exact details of the contract are yet to be revealed. Reports suggest that Hayes’ new contract is still “awaiting approval from the U.S. Soccer Federation’s board of directors”. An emergency board meeting has reportedly been called for the same reason.

Since the exact details of the contract are still pending, there is no exact information available on her specific salary figures as well. However, several reports indicate that “if all goes according to plan”, Hayes would potentially earn the highest salary of any women’s national team coach. If this is true, it would signal a landmark moment in women’s battle for equal pay.

Emma Carol Hayes, OBE, is an English professional football manager who was born on October 18, 1976, in the London Borough of Camden, London, UK. She is the current manager of FA WSL club Chelsea Women. She is currently 47 years old, and she is one of the most renowned and successful female football coaches worldwide.

Emma attended Parliament Hill School and later attended Liverpool Hope University.

Coaching career

Emma started out her coaching career with the Long Island Lady Riders from 2001–2003 before taking charge of the Iona Gaels from 2003–2006.She then served as the assistant head coach at Arsenal from 2006–2008. After two seasons, she then moved to the USA to serve as the head coach and director of football operations for the Chicago Red Stars of Women’s Professional Soccer from 2008–2010. She then joined Chelsea as their head coach in 2012 and has served in the same role up until now.

Emma Hayes and Gregg Berhalter salary

Several reports have stated that Emma Hayes’ salary will potentially be close to or equal to Gregg Berhalter’s salary. Gregg is the head coach of the US men’s national soccer team. According to some media reports, the U.S. federation “could seek to bring Hayes in line with Gregg Berhalter.” Meanwhile, other reports suggest that “some [U.S. Soccer] board members could demand the USSF pay Hayes the same.” As such, equal pay for both coaches could be “on the table.”

Gregg Berhalter recently signed a contract earlier this year and likely earns a salary of around $1.6 million or more. Notably, the former U.S. women’s head coach, Vlatko Andonovski, earned a salary of around $450,000 per year. As such, if reports of Emma’s new salary figures are true, it would mark a huge increase from previous figures.

Net worth

According to various sources, Emma Hayes has an estimated net worth of between $1 and $5 million.

Chelsea offered to quadruple Emma Hayes’s salary over the summer but it couldn’t match the $1.6 million she is set to receive in the US.

Emma Hayes expected start date as USWNT head coach

As of now, the exact details about when Emma Hayes will officially join the USWNT have not been confirmed. However, fans can expect to see a messy transition from her current Chelsea role to the U.S. national team. Earlier this year, Chelsea confirmed that Hayes would depart the club only at the end of the season. This means that she will only leave the club somewhere around mid-May. This will also depend on how far the team progresses through the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the FA Women’s Super League (WSL).

However, with the 2024 Olympics set to begin on July 24, she could face an early exit from Chelsea. Emma could also potentially find herself serving in both positions at the same time. According to reports, an email sent from U.S. Soccer to USWNT players about the new coach claimed that Hayes would hold four “tuneups” between late May and early July to prepare for the upcoming Olympics competition. For now, interim head coach Twila Kilgore will take charge of the team for the coming months.
