After suffering knee ligament damage, Emiliano Buendía might be sidelined for the full campaign. Just days before their Premier League debut, Aston Villa reported the midfielder had undergone a scan. Villa are currently looking for a successor for Buendia, and a deal to sign Nicolo Zaniolo, a star player for Galatasaray and Italy, is in the works.
The team released the following statement: “Aston Villa can confirm Emi Buendía has sustained serious knee ligament damage. The midfielder had a scan after suffering the injury during yesterday’s practice. Buendía will now be reviewed before a second appointment with a knee specialist.”

This season Villa will be competing in Europe.
On Saturday, Villa will play their away Premier League opener against Newcastle. After finishing seventh last season, the team will also play in Europe for the first time in 13 years. Later this month, they will compete in the Europa Conference League play-off round against Hibernian or Luzern.
In 2021, Buendia relocated to Villa Park after leaving Norwich for £33 million. Under Unai Emery, he was in excellent form in the previous campaign, participating in all of the club’s league games and contributing five goals and two assists. The 26-year-old scored three goals in preseason play this summer as well. Since joining Villa, Buendia has scored nine goals in 73 Premier League games.
In preparation for the new season, Villa has been active on the transfer market. Prior to their departure for Europe, Moussa Diaby, Pau Torres, and Youri Tielemans had all joined the club.
Aston Villa have eyes on Galatasaray forward Zaniolo
According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa is in negotiations to sign Galatasaray attacker Nicolo Zaniolo this month. After a contentious breakup with Roma, the 24-year-old Italian forward moved to Turkey in February and signed a four-year deal with the Istanbul team. With five goals in 11 games during the first half of the Super Lig season, he showed some promise.
This summer, Zaniolo has been connected to a number of teams, including Milan, Juventus, and certain Saudi Arabian teams. His Galatasaray contract has a €35 million release clause. According to Romano, Zaniolo is one of Aston Villa’s top targets this summer, and negotiations to sign the Galatasaray forward have already begun.
