He was born on November 5th, 1984 in Kenya’s Kapsisiywa, Nandi County. He only knew his father via images and he was brought up by a single mother who was a teacher. He has 3 elder siblings in his family.

Eliud Kipchoge used to run the 5000-meter distance. Later, he shifted to the marathon.
In 2003, he won the junior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and established a world junior record over 5000 meters on the track, giving him his first solo world championship victory.
At the 2003 World Championships in Athletics, when he was only eighteen years old, he set a championship record to win the senior 5000-meter race. He subsequently went on to win the bronze medal for Kenya at the 2004 Summer Olympics, as well as another bronze at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
Kipchoge won silver medals at the 2007 World Championships, the 2008 Summer Olympics, and the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He has advanced to the World Championship 5000 m final five times.
