29-year-old Senegalese International goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the World. Meanwhile, he is renowned for keeping clean sheets and is a solid goalkeeper. In addition, he has also sidelined the most expensive goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and has cemented his position in the heart of Chelsea.

Mendy was crucial in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph over Manchester City where the Senegalese goalkeeper kept a clean sheet. Mendy was acquired by Le Havre AC when he was 13-years-old but was way down in the pecking order which wasted his earlier development years. However, he began his professional football career in AS Cherbourg who were stuck in the third tier of French football. Meanwhile, his contract expired in the summer of 2014 and Mendy was out of a job for more than 18 months.

During that time, he registered for unemployment and was making a living by doing odd jobs to make the ends meet. However, his friend recognized his talent and suggested he try his hands in the area of football with full focus. Subsequently, he was impressed in the trials at Marseille and was signed as a reserve goalkeeper in 2015.

The following season, he joined Ligue 2 club Reims in search of regular football and immediately cemented his position as the first-choice goalkeeper. He stayed there for 3 seasons where he kept 35 clean sheets and was awarded the goalkeeper of the year award.

In the summer of 2019, he joined Reins for an undisclosed fee and helped the team secure a Champions League spot in a season shortened by Covid. Meanwhile, he managed to keep 9 clean sheets in 24 appearances for the French side.
