Eden Gardens pitch report for SA vs AUS
The ICC has selected four pitches of the nine strips at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, for hosting matches at the ongoing World Cup. The ICC has prepared all the wickets at the venue using black cotton soil, which will help retain the bounce. Up until now, the previous matches at the venue have seen a mixture of results. However, all three matches were played on different wickets, which assisted the quick bowlers in the early stages.
So far, Eden Gardens has hosted 35 ODIs, where the average first-inning score was 240. Notably, the teams batting first have had the advantage over recent years as the spinners used the slow surface to their advantage. However, recent matches have seen the pacers have the upper hand. Notably, dew will likely be a factor in the upcoming match, even if there is no rain. However, the organizers have set up sporting tracks to stop one-sided matches. The captains will be tempted to bat second on a fresh wicket despite the batting side’s struggle in the most recent match.
Eden Gardens previous matches at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023
The first World Cup 2023 match at the venue featured an 87-run victory for the Netherlands over Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the second game at the venue saw Pakistan secure a victory over Bangladesh. In the third match, India set up a good total of 326 before bowling out South Africa for 83. Meanwhile, England defended a total of 337 runs against Pakistan in the fourth match.
