EA appears to be changing its smash-hit FIFA franchise as EA Sports Football Club in the impending time
As per journalist and industry insider Jeff Grubb, the developer/publisher allegedly approved the decision to change the name of the soccer franchise internally.
EA To Rebrand FIFA As EA Sports Football Club Game Soon
“EA Sports Football Club, EA Sports FC, that’s the name of the game,” Grubb said on his premium show, Grubbsnax.
“I saw trademarks for it, I thought that could be just a feature like an online mode, [but] I asked around about it [and] that’s it, that’s the name.”
Although we can only take it as a rumour for the time being – despite Grubb’s other industry rumours being proven true over time – it does fit with reports of EA struggling with soccer’s governing body, not least because EA filed an application in the UK and the EU last October for something called ‘EA Sports FC,’ publicly stating that it was “exploring the idea of renaming [its] global EA Sports football games.”
Surprisingly, the trademarks were filed just as the company announced it was “reviewing [its] naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all of our other official partnerships and licences across the football world.” We were reminded at the time that EA Sports Football Club was a FIFA social feature that ran from 2011 to 2020, so it was possibly related to that. However, it now appears more likely that it is FIFA’s new name.
Who Made It To The Commonwealth Games 2022?
Did you know Konami’s eFootball series was chosen over FIFA for the Commonwealth Esports Championships lineup that will take place later this year?
As Hirun stated at the time, it’s a simply amazing announcement, not least because when eFootball first launched in September 2021, it was riddled with bugs, ugly player models, and received abysmal Steam reviews. The new venture for what was once Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series performed so poorly that the developer apologised for it shortly after its release.
DOTA 2 and Rocket League will compete alongside eFootball in the Commonwealth Esports Championships in August.
