2022 Dutch Darts Masters Day 1 Results, Elimination of Michael van Gerwen, And Final Schedule
Six of the eight Dutch competitors won their first round clash in the PDC World Series of Darts tournament Dutch Masters, which was held in the Ziggo Dome. The evening’s featured match saw UK Open champion Noppert upset Van Gerwen. After a remarkable start that saw both players averaging over 110 after five legs, Van Gerwen, who was making his first appearance since having wrist surgery last week, fell behind.
In a thrilling 11-leg match earlier that evening, Van der Voort lifted the roof by defeating world number two Gerwyn Price. Another well-known figure was eliminated in Amsterdam when world champion Peter Wright lost to Dirk van Duijvenbode in a thrilling contest. In just nine legs, the two players exchanged 11 maximums, but the former World Grand Prix runner-up prevailed convincingly, 6-3.
Dimitri Van den Bergh, the champion of the Nordic Darts Masters, defeated Ron Meulenkamp 6-2 to start his quest for back-to-back World Series victories. The other PDC participant to advance was fourth seed James Wade, who defeated former World Matchplay semifinalist Jeffrey de Zwaan 6-2 to advance to the last eight. Wade, who has won ten TV championships, ruthlessly took advantage of De Zwaan’s difficulties in the outer ring by striking first with a magnificent 125 checkout and winning five of the final six legs to win. The world number five will now face Maik Kuivenhoven in the quarterfinals on Saturday night after Kuivenhoven easily defeated an unfocused Fallon Sherrock 6-1 in his first round.
