The 131st edition of the Durand Cup kicks off a new football season in India as FIFA’s ban takes effect.

Asia’s oldest football competition, which is also the third-oldest in the world, gets underway at Salt Lake stadium in this city. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be present for the opening ceremony, which will come before a match between FC Goa and Mohammedan Sporting, the current champions, and the runners-up from last year. It might come to an end with President Droupadi Murmu awarding the awards on September 18, continuing a custom that was discontinued when the competition left New Delhi.
