The Durand Cup

The Durand Cup is an annual domestic football competition, which initially began in Shimla back in 1888. The competition usually serves as the first competition to kick off the Indian football season. It allows any club from one of the top three divisions to compete, along with invited teams from the different branches of the Indian Armed Forces.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) along with the Durand Football Tournament Society (DFTS), usually co-host the event together. The Durand Cup 2023 is also the fifth-oldest national football championship in the world along with being the oldest club football tournament in Asia. This year’s edition of the Durand Cup will be the 132nd edition.

This year, 28 clubs are set to take part in the Durand Cup 2023, out of which 12 belong to the ISL and 11 belong to the I-League. Five other invitee teams from the Indian Armed Forces will also participate in the competition.

Durand Cup 2023 venue

The Durand Cup 2023 is set to take place across four different venues – Shillong, Kokrajhar, Kolkata, and Guwahati. Shillong in Meghalaya and Kokrajhar in Assam are set to serve as venues for the tournament for the first time.
