The prize money that is awarded to the winners of the Durand Cup is Rs. 60 lakhs and the prize money that is awarded to the runners-up of the Durand Cup is Rs. 40 lakhs.
The 132nd Durand Cup football tournament will now be played in the Assam city of Kokrajhar, the new additional venue for the event which will take place from August 3 to September 3.
Twenty distinct teams took play in the 2022 Durand Cup. It is expected that the event will expand for the following edition. This season, there are 24 clubs divided into 4 groups, including 12 ISL teams, 6 I-League teams, and 5 Army clubs.
The only city to host several tournament events is Kolkata, which will host Group A, Group B, and Group C of these groups. The Durand Cup 2023 final game will be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on September 3, 2023. The Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati will serve as the site of the Group D and Group E matches. Moreover, nine games, including one of the quarterfinal contests, will be played at the SAI Centre Ground in Kokrajhar, the tournament’s newest host city.
After a gap of 27 years, international teams will once again compete in the tournament, with the Army teams of Bangladesh and Nepal having already confirmed their attendance.
Football fans are in for a treat, especially with so many well-known derbies scheduled. One of the biggest football rivalries in the world, the Kolkata Derby between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Emami East Bengal, will be prominent among them. The two southern derbies between Hyderabad FC and Chennaiyin FC, champions Bengaluru FC and Gokulam Kerala, and the Kerala derby between ISL team Kerala Blasters and 2019 champions Gokulam Kerala are among the others. North-East United FC and Shillong Lajong will also face off in the North-East derby.
