The Durand Cup played it’s 130th edition in 2021. The tournament was held from 5th September to 3rd October in West Bengal. 16 teams were distributed in four groups to battle it out for the most prestigious football tournament in India.

Winning the Durand Cup is a great honor as it is the oldest football competition in Asia and also the third oldest in the world. This year’s final was played between FC Goa and Mohammedan SC. Let’s take a look at how the final turned out.

The final certainly lived up to it’s expectations, it was a match full of drama and also entertainment. In the end, FC Goa managed to prevail on top and also win their maiden Durand Cup. The match was all square by the end of normal time (0-0) and went to the extra-time.

However, the breakthrough finally came for FC Goa when their Captain Eduardo Bedia found the back of the net at the 105th minute. The goal was a classy finish, Bedia scored directly from the free-kick to give his team the lead. Bedia’s goal also proved to be the only difference between the two sides.

The 34,000 fans at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharti Stadium were also left in complete silence after the goal. As most of the fans were for Mohammedan SC.

Durand Cup 2021 Prize Money 

The winners of the 2021 Durand Cup FC Goa got a total sum of 40,00,000 INR. Moreover, the Mohammedan SC did not go empty handed and were also rewarded for their efforts with 20,00,000 INR.

Durand Cup 2021 Golden Boot, Golden Glove and Golden Ball

  • The top scorer of the competition Marcus Joseph was rewarded with the Golden Boot.
  • The best goalkeeper of the competition Naveen Kumar received the Golden Glove.
  • The best player of the tournament award was given to Eduardo Bedia and he received the Golden Ball.

Durand Cup Man of the Match

The Captain and winning goal scorer Eduardo Bedia was given the Man of the Match award for the final of 2021 Durand Cup. He was also the fitting winner of the prize as it was his goal which saw FC Goa take home the glory.

The individual award winners were handed over Rs.1 lakh while the third and fourth placed teams were given Rs.5 lakh.
