Murphy dominated the afternoon session that saw him sprint to a 6-2 lead while producing runs of 145, 141, & 112. When the players showed up for the evening session, Murphy continued his mesmerizing series of breaks. Although Carter responded with breaks of 71 & 82 to stay in the game at 8-4 after Murphy’s century run of 103, Murphy regained the momentum by firing breaks of 88 & 130. Following his decisive 130 break, Murphy finished the match by score of 10-4 to clinch the title.
Although recently crowned German Masters champion Carter will be upset to have fallen short to an inspired Murphy today, he can take solace in the fact that he qualified for the next Duelbits Tour Championship. Both finalists have successfully locked up their spots in the top eight qualifying spots. In addition, Shaun Murphy broke John Higgins’ previous Players Championship mark of eight from back in 2021 by producing a record 11 century breaks during the competition.

Shaun Murphy will receive compensation totaling £125,000 from the $385,000 prize pool as the competition’s winner, and Ali Carter will receive compensation totaling £50,000 as the runner-up. After losing in the semifinals, Kyren Wilson & Joe O’Connor will each get £30,000 in reward money. Murphy has ended his three-year title drought after winning the 2023 Players Championship.
