Tiktok’s Doubloons Meme Origin
In April of 2021, cat-focused Instagram pages started uploading photos of the kitten’s paws labeling each toe as a “dabloon”. The phenomenon started with the Instagram page @catz.jpeg which first shared a photo of a stretched-out cat paw with “4 Dabloons” as an explanation.
Since its origin, several people have altered the spelling of the dabloon to Doubloons. Moreover, you are like to see both spellings on your travels. A week further, a similar account uploaded another Doubloons meme, with a scruffy black cat holding up its paw. The image slowly made its way to other handles, and thus started the Doubloons meme.
The meme was initially shared on TikTok in June of 2021 and in October 2022 the trend took off. After a lengthy scroll through the app, ‘weary travelers’ would be encountering the cat, who would be suggesting a trade offer and ask to be given 4 Doubloons.
