Ross Taylor was slapped by a Rajasthan royals owner when he got out on a duck against Punjab in IPL 2011
The Kiwi batsman has played IPL for 7 seasons but the most devastating memory of his career came in 2011 IPL. In the league game against Kings XI, Punjab RR was chasing a mammoth total of 195. In response, Rajasthan collapsed badly as they lost the game with 47 runs. Ross Taylor faced 5 deliveries in the game before getting out on duck against Piyush Chawla.
After the match, the Rajasthan team was in the pub of the hotel to freshen up their mind. Team owners and the captain Shane Warne were sitting at a separate table when they called ross for a chat. The owner of RR slapped him 3-4 times while saying, “Ross we didn’t pay million dollars to get out on duck.” He even said that the slaps weren’t that hard and he was laughing while saying it.
BCCI official say’s “Don’t Know what you are talking about”
One of the BCCI officials who has been busy traveling was asked about the ross Taylor slap incident. But the latter remain tight-lipped and didn’t say anything. The BCCI official said, “Don’t Know what you are talking about” and dodged the question.
Ross Taylor was left awestruck with the popularity of Rahul Dravid
He recalled the incident of the same year when Rahul Dravid and Johan Botha were traveling across a mall with Ross. He said, “The South African off-spinner Johan Botha and I were sitting next to Rahul Dravid at breakfast in Jaipur. We asked him if he wanted to go for a coffee; he didn’t really, but we twisted his arm. We got a cab to a five-storeyed mall. Hadn’t taken any security with us, which was naive. Within two minutes the mall was packed – there were at least 4000 people – and we had to get mall security to extract us.”
