Dead Island 2 will have no option available for crossplay with Xbox.
And the Xbox version will suffer because of it.
If Xbox is hoping to survive this gen, they need crossplay on all future 3rd party games.

Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 is the latest edition of the Dead Island instalment and it is now fully available for everyone across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. PC users who wish to the play the game can only do so through the Epic Games store. As of now, there are no reports of a Steam release.
Just like the first edition, the new sequel isn’t open world, and players cannot drive cars either. However, the game’s depiction features a zombie apocalyptic Los Angles where skimpy rotting corpses replace skimpy beautiful women.
Will Dead Island 2 be available for crossplay
Sadly, for fans and players, Dead Island 2 will not be available for crossplay as it does not support cross platform multiplayer co-op between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Instead, fans will only be able to enjoy it using cross-gen. This means that PS4 users can play with PS5, while the same goes for Xbox One with Series X/S. Fans who wish to use this feature and play multiplayer need to unlock co-op.
To unlock co-op, fans simply need to progress through the very early stages of the story. In particular, the online feature gets unlocked during the Call the Cavalry mission. Once a player unlocks the feature, they can then play either Public, Invite Only, or Friends Only multiplayer.
How to play PS4 and PS5 multiplayer co-op
While Dead Island 2 features cross-gen multiplayer co-op, only PS5 players can host a PS4 player and not vice versa. The same thing goes for Xbox One and Series X/S users. Moreover, there are more restrictions online.
A player can host a friend and play multiplayer only if they have completed the same number of story missions. If not, the person who has completed the least amount of story missions has to be the one hosting the other player who has completed more.
Moreover, players should not that the XP, weapons, and loot that a player earns during multiplayer games will remain with them in their single-player HELL-A.
