Does Bryan Kohberger have borderline personality disorder as motive behind murders is questioned

Some online observers of the events that have unfolded since the brutal killings at the University of Idaho in November have speculated that suspect Bryan Kohberger may be afflicted with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

On December 30, 2022, Kohberger, then aged 28, was apprehended in Pennsylvania for questioning in connection with the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, all of whom were students at the University of Idaho.

Bryan Kohberger mental health is being speculated for borderline personality disorder

Several aspects of Kohberger’s personality have emerged since his arrest, which capped off a seven-week inquiry. In the previous several weeks, Kohberger’s mental health has been the subject of much speculation, with rumours ranging from his neighbour saying he rarely slept to a classmate saying the murder suspect once boasted about picking up ladies in clubs and bars and that he may have been bullied.

The mystery of his motivation and the true events leading up to the stabbing of the four teenagers on November 13 has persisted to baffle law enforcement and mental health professionals.

Marisa Iati, who has been covering the case for the Washington Post for the past few weeks, recently tweeted the three most pressing questions that everyone is asking, including the motivation behind the murders, Kohberger’s connection to the victims, and the reactions of the surviving inmates who reportedly saw the killer.

A Twitter user venting his frustrations about the brutality of the murder attributed to Kohberger recently posted a series of photographs that suggest he suffers from borderline personality disorder. The commenter penned, “#BryanKohberger motive was revenge/rage over rejection. BK wanted to feel emotions of committing & getting away with murder. BK needed the adrenaline rush of murder. Wanted to see if he could get away with it. Narcissist get a high out of knowing secrets #Idaho #Idaho4 #IdahoFour.”

What is Borderline personality disorder?

Borderline personality disorder, also known as emotional dysregulation disorder, is characterised by extreme mood swings, erratic behaviour, and strained interpersonal connections. Numerous neurodiverse persons coping with BPD require treatment, such as counselling, to achieve emotional stability and social acceptability. Having a good system in place for these individuals is crucial.

It seems likely that Bryan Kohberger struggled with his mental health, but it is too soon to assign a definitive diagnosis. It should be noted that Idaho law prohibits Kohberger from pleading insanity, thus that option is out of the question for him.

The Fox News Digital article quotes Kris Mohandie, who calls herself a forensic psychologist, as saying that “law enforcement should take a close look at the suspect potentially being an incel.” Mohandie added, “There’s a lot of hatred and anger that is evidenced in these crimes – the level of violence, the resolve, the obvious hostility in such a personal attack. There’s something hateful and rage-filled about it.”
