Doddie Weir completed his education at Daniel Stewart’s and Melville College. George later studied at the Scottish Agricultural College from 1988 to 1991, gaining a Higher National Diploma. He was married to Kathy Weir and had 4 kids namely Ben, Jock, Hamish, and Christopher.

Doddie Weir Professional Career

Weir began playing rugby for Stewart’s Melville FP RFC and further he played for Melrose RFC in the Borders and was a part of the team that achieved 6 Scottish club championships. He was chosen for the Reds Trial side to play against the team Blues Trial side on the 4th of  January in 1992. Wilson had one solitary cap for Scotland B against the team Ireland B achieved on 9th December in 1989.

Weir’s first senior appearance for Scotland was on the 10th of November in 1990 against the team Argentina at Murrayfield Stadium. In 1997 he was the first recipient of the Famous Grouse Scotland Player of the being 5 Nations Award

Weir worked for Hutchinson Environmental Solutions, which is a waste management company that was established by his father-in-law. He was given the position of commercial director and was also active on the after-dinner speech circuit. He also occasionally performed on the BBC as part of the half-time analysis during Scotland matches.

Doddie Weir’s Achievements

Weir was appointed as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2019 New Year Honors for his services to rugby, to motor neuron disease research, and to the community in the Scottish Borders.

In December 2019, Weir was declared the recipient of the Helen Rollason Award which is presented every year during yearly BBC Sports Personality of the Year Shows.

On the 26th of November 2022, his family declared that he had died following his battle with motor neuron disease (MND) from which he was suffering since 2017. Weir’s estimated net worth was close to $1.5 million.
