Are you curious about the overall salary that players make in the Summer League? Read on to find out, but first let’s go find out what exactly it is.

What is the NBA Summer League?

The NBA Summer League is an 11-day off-season competition featuring 75 games, usually held in July. The competition allows teams to try out different lineups. It serves as a platform for younger players to impress teams and sign contracts.

The Summer League also brings in participation from young players from the G League, undrafted prospects, or rookies looking to win a roster spot.

It first started in Orlando as the Orlando Pro Summer League in 2002. However, it went defunct in 2018 as most teams began to opt for its rival tournament, the Las Vegas Summer League.

Along with the Las Vegas league, which features all 30 teams, the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings each host their own mini tournaments ahead of the official event. This year, the summer league begins on August 8, featuring a total of 75 games over the course of ten days.

How much are the players’ salaries?

Currently, the Summer League only pays salaries to players who have already signed contracts with an NBA team. However, while the players may not get proper NBA salaries, they get a “per diem” allowance besides various other perks while playing in the NBA Summer League. Each player receives a payment of around $1500 per day for the tournament that goes on for 10–12 days.

The cash allowance alone might not be as huge as NBA contracts, comparatively. Despite this, the amount is considerable and players can divide it into multiple installments or one lump sum payment.

Moreover, the tournament takes place in Los Angeles, which means that the NBA teams pay the round-trip for their own players. The NBA teams also pay for the rooms and accommodation arrangements, together with two daily meals for their players.
