The co-founder of the Red Bull is one of the few billionaire businessmen who invested in sports. His company holds ownership of quite a number of teams including in football, Formula One, Moto GP, Ice Hockey and other sports.
Dietrich Mateschitz, the Austrian billionaire co-founder and owner of Red Bull, has died aged 78 after a serious illness with cancer and was the richest man in Austria with a net worth of $15 billion. Through Red Bull, Mateschitz had a stake in two racing teams worth more than $350 million, Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso.
Who was Dietrich Mateschitz?
Dietrich, who was born in Sankt Marein im Mürztal, Austria, was a billionaire businessman. He was the co-founder of Red Bull.
He was also the owner of the Red Bull racing team. He had Austrian and Slovenian ancestry. Both of his parents were from Styria, Austria.
When Dietrich was born, both of his parents used to work as a school teacher, however, they got separated when Mateschitz was growing up.
After their separation, the businessman continued living with his mother. He completed his graduation in Economics and Business Marketing from the Vienna University in 1972.
After graduating, he started working for Unilever, where he used to work for the marketing of detergents.
Later in his career, he joined Blendax, which is a cosmetics company. At the time, he discovered Krating Daeng, later named it as Red Bull.
In 1984, the Austrian native along with Chaleo Yoovidhya founded Red Bull GmbH. After he launched the brand in Austria in 1987, the brand became the most famous energy drink in the world.
Though in his life-time, the businessmen never married, however, he had a son named Mark Gerhardter.
The businessmen shared his son with a former girlfriend named Anita. Apart from being a billionaire businessman, he also had a pilot’s licence.
He used to live in Fuschl am See, Austria. At the coast of Fiji, the businessman owned an island named Laucala. He bought the island from the Forbes family.
