Now, some online users are asserting that Monica Keasler, a Texas woman, is the one who alerted the DEC. However, since the DEC has not disclosed the identity of the source of the report, the claims remain unsubstantiated. But according to social media users, the woman in question is Monica Kesler, who reported the squirrel anonymously.
According to various posts, Keasler allegedly posted a video on TikTok saying it was her right to report Longo to the DEC before making her account private and another similarly named woman, Monica Kessler, said she’s been receiving death threats and other hateful comments from people thinking she’s the one who reported Longo to the DEC. She has since taken to TikTok to deny the claims.
Monica Keasler who is claimed to have reported Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon is a photographer based in the southern portion of Texas, according to a user on X named Tala Smith. Smith claims that after reporting the squirrel on Facebook, the woman boasted about it. However, Smith asserted that the woman had removed her social media accounts after the squirrel’s death garnered national attention.

However, after a social media user, Joe, pointed out the confession stemmed from a fake TikTok account created just hours after Keasler’s name began floating around the internet, Longo deleted his Instagram story that urged people to remember Keasler’s name as he investigated the incident.
Mark Longo also took social media, along with his wife, and implore netizens to stop spreading misinformation without concrete evidence. Mark and his wife were the owners of social media star Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon.
As of now there is no evidence to support that Monica Keasler reported Peanut The Squirrel to DEC, other than social media users accusing the woman without any proof.

Before being maintained as a pet, all wild animals must be registered with the DEC in accordance with New York State law. Nevertheless, the squirrel was not registered even though it had lived with its owner, Mark Longo, and his wife, Daniela Longo, for more than seven years. In an interview with the Associated Press, Mark Longo stated that he was now working on registering the squirrel as an educational animal.

When the DEC raided Mark Longo’s home in Bath County last week, they found Peanut the Squirrel and a raccoon named Fred. One of the policemen was bitten by the squirrel during the raid, according to the DEC, and the animals subsequently tested positive for rabies. Following rabies testing, the department put both animals to death.
With thousands of followers on various social media platforms, Peanut the Squirrel was a viral figure. Alongside Mark Longo, he did tricks that often went popular on social media. It has generated a great deal of controversy since it passed away, attracting figures like Elon Musk and Donald Trump.
