To make matters worse, Indian cricket players Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, and Navdeep Saini are being mocked for the food they purchased at the Melbourne restaurant, which broke the bio-secure bubble. However, while it is being claimed Rohit eat beef, nothing has been officially confirmed about the players who consumed the beef and pork items. Sources close to Rohit have previously spoken about how he is a strict vegetarian and does not eat meat.
Several Indian fans are questioning the players’ appearance as well as the cost of the food they ordered. The Indian cricket players’ order of food that included beef and pork, which are viewed as anti-Hindu and anti-Muslim, outraged the fans. While Islam forbids the eating of pork, many Hindus view eating beef as a sin.
Rohit was criticized for consuming pork and meat
Fans criticized the cricket players, particularly Rohit Sharma, and vented their resentment on their individual Twitter accounts. A shocked individual on Twitter remarked in Hindi, “Sharmaji Ka Ladka Beef Bhi Khata Hai,” expressing his disbelief. The Indian cricket team captain came under fire from another Twitter user for being a hypocrite since he preaches against using animals for sustenance but consumes beef and pork. A further Twitter user attacked Rohit Sharma, labelling him as a fake animal activist.
Even Sourav Ganguly, the board president, and Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI and the son of BJP politician and Home Minister Amit Shah, were subtly mocked. Since the BJP has been a strong opponent of people who consume beef, the supporters missed their opportunity to subtly mock the central government.
However, even after backlashes, some supported Rohit and chastised the critics for needlessly drawing the captain of India into a dispute.
It was during the COVID-19 pandemic
The Indian cricket players’ photo caused a huge uproar since they were allegedly breaking the bio-secure bubble and disobeying the measures put in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Later, the BCCI declared that it was investigating the entire incident, and a board member gave assurances that all five of the players involved in the dispute behaved appropriately and kept their distance from one another.
