In Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the right-arm bowler claimed five wickets and was instrumental in his team’s convincing 302-run victory over Sri Lanka in the World Cup’s 33rd encounter. But what really grabbed everyone’s attention was Shami’s choice to forego Sajda or worship, as soon as he finished his five-wicket haul. He bent low to do a Sajda, but he did not lower his head; instead, he remained in that posture.

Social media users quickly took notice and shared the opinion that Shami might have stayed away from Sajda since he is a representative of a nation where incidents of Islamophobia had occurred in the past. While this is a propaganda which has been spread by Pakistanis online, nothing alludes to Shami actually bending to do the sajda with him just going down on his knees in the aftermath of taking a wicket.

Unbeaten India reaches the semi-final.

In the meantime, India’s victory over Sri Lanka guaranteed their place in the semi-finals and shot them to the top of the points table. India becomes the first team with an undefeated 7/7 record to advance to the 2023 World Cup semifinals. However, when they play South Africa at the Eden Gardens on Sunday, they will face a real test.

India thrashed Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium

India destroyed Sri Lanka by 302 runs on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, putting on yet another brutal display.  India was asked to bat first, and three half-centuries from Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer guided the team to an impressive score of 357/8. Following Rohit Sharma’s cheap dismissal in the opening over by Dilshan Madushanka, who went on to claim five wickets, Kohli and Gill each scored half-centuries on their way to an incredible partnership of 189 runs.

After Madushanka interrupted the wicket-taking stand and prevented both set batsmen from reaching their century, Sri Lanka recovered thanks to the wickets of KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav. Iyer, though, returned to brilliant form and hammered off a 56-ball 82 to guarantee that India reached 300 before two thunderous strokes from Ravindra Jadeja in the closing stages lifted the total above 350.

Then, with the opening ball, Jasprit Bumrah gave India the perfect start. Then Mohammed Siraj joined the celebration, taking two wickets in an over to reduce Sri Lanka to 3-4. Moreover, the outstanding Mohammed Shami finished with five wickets as the Lankan innings was done in 19.4 overs.
