Though it doesn’t matter that the rumors on Reddit were clearly a joke, the theory is too irresistible to ignore.
Though a week after his unlikely win, Niemann vowed to play matches naked if that’s what people needed to see to convince themselves he wasn’t cheating.
This latest chess world’s drama seems to have taken over the internet yet many are wondering what this is all about. So let’s discuss.
Last week, the 19-year-old Niemann managed to knock out the 5-time World Champion at the $500,000 Sinquefield Cup in St. Louis, Missouri.
The duo had never played before against each other, Niemann was clearly the weaker and less experienced player also he was playing as black.
The duo faced-off 3 days into the tournament on September 5. During the match Carlsen made an early mistake which led Niemann to force Carlsen into a difficult end game.
As per a report by Grandchesstour, a counter with his bishop on turn 13 turned out to be an especially devastating reply. Things continued to go downhill for Carlsen and eventually he ended up losing.

It’s something the 19-year old admitted to. But he stopped short of saying anything nefarious ever happened “over the board.”
Niemann didn’t downplay the accusations and the drama made for great fuel on Twitch and YouTube.
He was fired back in his September 6 exit interview from a tournament, criticizing Nakamura and denying anything nefarious occurred.
At the time, he said, “I have never cheated in an over-the-board game. If they want me to strip fully naked, I will do it.”
Later he took to his Twitter and wrote, “Hikaru plays the victim but seems to forget dedicating hours of his stream to criticize all of my interviews with frivolous insinuations.”
Following the tweet, the next day he again penned down, “Perhaps he deserves some blame and should take accountability for what he said. At least he has 42% more subs now.”
Although there is still no evidence about Niemann cheating, there was an announcement done on September 8 that Niemann could be removed from Chess.com.
According to reports, there aren’t any evidence for anal beads usage in Carlsen’s stunning defeat.
