At first, David Crosby relocated from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles in 1960 so that he might pursue a career in acting.
The rock band The Byrds, which he co-founded with Roger McGuinn and Gene Clark in 1963, was a departure from his original career path. The Byrds were considered for a Grammy for “Best New Artist” in 1965. The death’s cause remains unknown.
List of David Crosby charges and controversies
The gifted musician has had a fruitful career and has also been the subject of criticism. David was arrested multiple times, but his 1985 sentence was by far the longest and most impactful. All accusations are broken down below:
1982 Texas cocaine possession
David’s drug abuse culminated in 1982 when he was arrested in Texas. The Dallas Police Department searched his dressing room at Cardi’s nightclub due to his heavy drug use. The Dallas Morning News said that David was free-basing in plain view of a large number of police officers. Since possessing cocaine is a criminal offence, law enforcement officials arrested him. When authorities searched his backpack, they found a.45 calibre semiautomatic handgun, which led to additional charges being filed against him.
David Crosby said he started carrying the weapon after John Lennon was slain several years ago. David was arrested and served a total of nine months behind bars, during which time he claims he was able to kick his drug and alcohol habits. In an interview with the Dallas Morning News in 2014, David said his time behind bars had saved his life.
Only nine months into his sentence, he was granted early release. Although David’s stint in prison was essential in helping him give up drugs, that was not the end of his run-ins with the law.
Hit-and-run in 1985
This same year, Crosby was arrested for a hit-and-run. But his time behind bars was brief and his punishment was light. According to reports from the time of his arrest, David Crosby was driving in a Northern California area of Marine County when he slammed his automobile into a fence. The police searched him and found drugs along with a.45 calibre revolver.
2004 firearms and drug allegations
Although David Crosby was arrested in New York for possession of a handgun and drugs in 2004. The only drug found in his possession was marijuana. Over the course of 12 hours, David was held in custody for the offence before being released on a $3,500 bond. He pled guilty in exchange for a $5,000 fine and avoided jail time after the judge accepted his offer. So far as we can tell, he has not had any other legal issues since then.
