This year’s competition, will undoubtedly have a spiked interest for Indian athletics fans as they will get to see Olympic Javelin throw gold medalist and national hero Neeraj Chopra.
The Diamond League
The Diamond League is an annual competition featuring a series of elite track and field athletic competitions. It initially began in 2010, and consists fourteen of the best invitational athletics meetings. This year, however there are only thirteen. The series is currently in the top tier of the World Athletics one-day meeting competitions.
Players to watch
Aside Indian javelin throw defending champion Neeraj Chopra, some other players to watch in the prestigious competition are triple jumper Eldhose Paul and long jumper Murali Sreeshankar.
2023 Diamond League format
The 2023 Diamond League will feature a total of 13 different competitions after the event in Shanghai, China got cancelled.
The competition will feature 14 series meetings, where athletes will win 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 or 1 points for ranking 1st to 8th respectively. The top six players in the field events, top eight for 100m-800m and top ten for 1500m and long distance events will move on the Final round. In the event of a tie, athlete with the best legal performance of the season will rank higher.
The qualified athletes will compete in a winner-takes-all competition in the final round. The winners will then win the coveted Wanda Diamond League Champion in their respective disciplines.
