40-year-old Devendra Jhajharia hails from Rajasthan’s Churu district, know his javelin throw world record, Paralympics career, career and biography

He was born on June 10th in the year 1981, Devendra is an Indian professional Paralympic javelin thrower who is competing in the F46 events. Devendra Jhajharia is the first Indian Paralympian to achieve two gold medals at the Paralympics events.

Devendra won one of his first gold medals in the javelin throw in the year 2004 at the Summer Paralympics. In the Summer Paralympics of 2006 that was held in Rio de Janeiro, Devendra Jhajharia received his second gold medal at the same event for betterment in his previous made record. He is presently being assisted by the GoSports Foundation by the Para Champions Programs.

His left hand was amputated when he came in contact with a live electric wire.

Devendra Jhajharia Javelin Throw Paralympics Career And World Record

In the year 2002, he won the gold in the 8th FESPIC Games held in South Korea. In the year 2004, Devendra Jhajharia qualified for his first Summer Paralympic Games in which he represented India at Athens. At the international games, Devendra set a new world record in history with a distance of 62.15m, beating the old distance of 59.77m.

Moreover, his athletic victory came in the year 2013 at the IPC Athletics World Championships held in Lyon, France when Devendra Jhajharia took the gold in the F46 javelin throw. He chased this with a silver at the Asian Para Games of 2014 held at Incheon in South Korea.

During a national selection trial in New Delhi, he went onto better his own world record of 63.97m with a 65.71m throw.

Devendra Jhajharia has won and been honored with many national awards like the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award in the year 2017, FICCI Para-Sportsperson of the Year award in the year 2014. Also with the Padma Shri award in the year 2012, he was the first Paralympian to be honored by the Arjuna Award in the year 2004.
