Netflix’s Depp v. Heard, on the other hand, will not dramatize the case and will instead explore the infamous dispute from a new, impartial perspective.

For those who are curious to know more about the release date, let us tell you, the three-part documentary series is set to premiere on August 16, 2023.

It all started In 2018, when Amber Heard wrote an op-ed saying that Johnny Depp had s*xually abused her throughout their relationship. Following this allegation, Depp and his legal team retaliated, claiming that Heard’s claims were false and that Depp was the true victim. An fierce legal struggle ensued, dividing not only the two celebrities but also the broader public.

The jury found both parties responsible for slander and struck an agreement in which Heard agreed to pay Depp $1 million in damages, which Depp reportedly planned to donate to five separate charities.

The trial lasted three months, from April to June, and took place in Virginia. Millions of admirers of the two celebrities tuned in, and almost 200 hours of the trial were live-streamed in the media.

While the trial was concluded a year ago, Netflix now hopes to shed additional light on it. Netflix’s official synopsis for Depp v. Heard states, “Showing both testimonies side by side for the first time, this series explores the trial that set Hollywood ablaze and the online fallout that followed.”

Though the streaming giant Netflix claims that their intention is not to fuel the drama, rather they want their audience to have an unbiased and impartial view of the trial. Meanwhile, viewers of both sides are wondering whether the docu-series may strit up more controversy for the stars as they are still recovering from the ordeal of the case.
