Bentley, who had defeated Linus Udofia to win the British middleweight title the year before, was in danger of losing it, but he did an outstanding job of defending it. Smith was knocked back by Bentley’s thundering left hook, which he followed up with a crushing right hand that caused Smith to fall to the ground in a matter of seconds.
