On Tuesday, Anthony Ginting, ranked second in men’s singles worldwide, triumphed over Christo Popov with a score of 21-15, 21-15, securing his spot in the second round of the 2023 BWF Denmark Open. Throughout the match, Ginting exhibited exceptional control and did not fall behind at any point, even against his opponent ranked 29th in the world. Looking ahead to the second round, Ginting, the bronze medalist in men’s singles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will face either Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong or China’s Lu Guang Zu.

In a surprising turn of events, the reigning Asian Games champion, Li Shifeng from the People’s Republic of China, experienced a first-round exit after a closely contested match against the 26th-ranked player in the world, Toma Junior Popov, who happens to be the elder brother of Christo. The final score-line in this exciting encounter was 12-21, 21-6, 21-17 in favor of the French shuttler.
