Denis Viktorovich Shapovalov was born on 15 April 1999, who is a Canadian professional tennis player. He was born to Tessa Shapovalova and Viktor Shapovalov. Tessa was on the Soviet national tennis team and moved from the Soviet Union to Tel Aviv with Denis’s father Viktor Shapovalov when the Soviet Union was collapsing. She, later on, became a tennis coach there.
But it got difficult for Denis to give enough time on the Richmond Hill club’s courts, so his mother left her job there and eventually opened her own tennis academy in Vaughan, named Tessa Tennis, to help her son train well and get a home base to train and to teach the game to other juniors. She is still his coach, along with Martin Laurendeau.
